Five top tips to make any space seem larger!
I wonder if you could help me? I think I need a bigger garden……….
Whether you’re looking to buy your first home or have just downsized or are looking to sell your smaller property, making the most of the space you have is a must to either fit in with your busy way of life or to appeal to the widest range of purchasers.
Here are some simple suggestions to open up even the smallest area with some tricks of the trade!
Open up a dark space and reflect light with mirrors – they are an easy and cheap way of transforming a space.
Track light fittings down the walls – thereby saving floor and wall space as well as giving you the ability to create different moods by strategically directing the rays. Make sure you let as much natural light into your space as possible.
Try to choose colour tones in the same family. Light, cool tones are best for smaller areas. For that individual look, small blocks of wallpaper for a splash of bold colour or pattern
Houseplants create a welcoming and friendly atmosphere and bring oxygen into your home.
Avoid cluttering your home – a bed along a wall can double up as a sofa with a heavyweight throw and cushions. Furniture should be kept to a minimum; a few larger pieces make a room work better than lots of little pieces. Try wherever possible to integrate your kitchen appliances rather than take up worktops which should be kept clear at all times.
Clever fitted cupboards and shelves can be used to transform unusual shaped areas such as chimney breasts into extra storage.
It’s time to be ruthless! Throw away any old junk – anything taking up unnecessary space should go to the charity shop!
And finally, and perhaps most drastically, sometimes the removal of an interior wall, such as between a small dining room and kitchen, can make up one large room with mixed areas and give a great feeling of space without the confines of wall boundaries – but obviously anything of this nature should be carried out by professionals and to current building standards!
